Delmarva Christian High School juniors Noah Theis and Ben Little attended this year’s County Day along with many other high school boys throughout Sussex County in preparation for the Delaware American Legion Boys State program held later this summer.

“County Day was beneficial in seeing how local government works, meeting with students in Sussex County with the same interests, and discussing specific problems unique to Sussex County,” said Little.

Also present for the event, held in the Council Chambers at the Administrative Office Building of Sussex County, were the President of the Council Mike Vincent and other Council members.

“The President of the Council commended us for our interest in the importance of local government, and it was nice to see how excited he was that students are getting involved,” added Theis.

The students were separated into groups and participated in mock County Council sessions where they where presented with different problems, scenarios, bills, and proposals and were asked to approve, reject, or provide alternative solutions.

Delmarva Christian’s Theis and Little look forward to attending Boys State from June 11 to the 15 where they will learn about State government, and how to understand and appreciate basic principles involved in the successful management of a democratic society.
