<p><strong>Art Felt Thanks – Mr. Drew Johnson</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
A studio art class in which the students would first visit a local church, place of business, or residence of their choosing (maybe with the school&#8217;s recommendation) and communicate his/her appreciation for their presence in the community or in their own lives. The students will then offer an artistic rendering of something meaningful to that institution or individual (i.e. a drawing of the church, a painting of the storefront, a portrait of the donor or friend of Delmarva Christian HS.</p>
<p>The students will take photographs of the subject and work from these photographs to create an original drawing or painting. We will then give the creations to the subjects as gifts and communicate our “art-felt thanks” to them for blessing our lives and our communities.</p>
<p>Guest artists will augment the instructor in helping student artists explore their artistic talents and possibilities.<br />

<p><strong>Athletic Training – Mr. Doc Hunt</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
This course will look into the prevention, first aid, treatment, and the rehabilitation of injuries. This is a hands on course. Students will examine the Spiritual, Trational, and natural ways to heal athletes.<br />

<p><strong>&#8220;BINGO WITH BILLIONS&#8221;: Congress and Why It Matters – Mr. Kevin Smith</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
We see its members on the news, visit its home in D.C., and hear people grumbling about it just about everywhere. It&#8217;s the United States Congress, and this class will explore what it does, how it does it, and why it matters. Students will debate important issues, write their own legislation, and try to get it to the President&#8217;s desk. We&#8217;ll learn more about how we as everyday citizens and as Christians can take part in the process. Trips to D.C. and Dover are under consideration.<br />

<p><strong>Connecting Science Across Christian Schools – Mrs. Kim Henry</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
Provide J-term support o local Christian K-8 schools. Direct support would include two days in each of the three schools instructing their classes. This instruction would include the use of probe technology and I would bring the laptops and probes, and any other supporting glassware and equipment.<br />

<p><strong>Deciphering The Museum Maze Staff – Mr. Eddy Jones</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
An exciting look at archaeology and its impact on history and the world today! Under consideration are treasure-hunting adventures to museums in Philadelphia &amp; Washington D.C. In addition, students became “armchair archaeologists” engaged<br />
in online research uncovering what has come to light at some ancient biblical sites and make become familiar with archaeological digs to be done in the near future. Artifact identification, field archaeology techniques, pottery restoration, surface survey and other scientific techniques were examined and applied by students.<br />
<em>Cost: $350 and covers transportation and hands on projects and artifacts that the student keeps.</em></p>
<p><strong>Exploring Careers in Healthcare – Mrs. Sue Hudson</strong><br />

<p><strong>Fort Lauderdale to Cozumel-Girls Only! – Mrs. Kim Henry</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
Godly womanhood is the focus of this J-term course.  The course will begin with a look at the attributes of the Proverbs 31 woman and how this chapter of the Bible relates to the modern young woman.  This will be followed by an exclusively Christian cruise titled &#8220;It&#8217;s a Girl Thing-A Girl&#8217;s Get-a-Way Cruise&#8221; sponsored by Premiere Christian Cruises on the Royal Carribean&#8217;s Liberty of the Seas from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Cozumel, Mexico.   Nationally known speakers and worship leaders will create an atmosphere to allow God&#8217;s daughters to put aside the worries and pressures of this culture and focus on knowing Him. &#8220;Faithbooking&#8221; sessions are included to provide instruction in using scrapbooking to record your spiritual journey. <p>Another aspect of this course is college preparation.  Participants will construct a personalized checklist to guide them through the college search, application, and scholarship search process.  Participants will have a concrete plan in place. There is the possibility to incorporate visits to Christian universites such as Regent, Campbell, Palm Beach Atlantic, and Southeastern.</p>
<p>This course is only open to sophomore and junior girls and will have several required meetings/Bible study sessions prior to January. An application process will be followed.</p>
<p>The estimated cost of this course is $1500 and is somewhat dependent upon the number of participants and the expediency of the booking process.<br />

<p><strong>Girls Basketball Calling, College and Careers – Mr. Mike Vonhof and Mr. Jeff Mohr</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
This course will afford the girls basketball players opportunities to bond as a team while exploring God&#8217;s call on their lives.  During the first week the team will prepare life plans and travel to University of Maryland and Liberty University.  During week two the team will travel to Philadelphia Biblical, Lancaster Bible and Messiah.  The girls will be spending the night in the dorms at the colleges and will have opportunities to see their teams play.  In the final week the girls will need to arrange a three day internship with a local business or school.<br />

<p><strong>Jamaica Missions – Rusty Dukes, Pastor Tim Dukes and Parent Chaperone</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
Participants will have the opportunity to minister to the people of Jamaica through a partnership with Teen Challenge. In addition to helping build dorms at Teen Challenge, teams will go out into the community to minister to those in prison, those living on the street, and children in local schools. This will be a life changing experience, both for the students and those they touch in Christ’s name.<br />

<p><strong>Journalism – Mrs. Kelley Ridley</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
Students will gain the necessary writing skills, grounded in Associated Press style, for various newspaper beats. Coverage areas will include state, national, international, student affairs, and features. An intensive study of media perspective will be introduced and NY Times and The News Journal will be researched daily and adapted into their own student paper. Students will learn how to handle media relations, including communication skills. Tours of local news offices will be held. (Cape Gazette, WBOC, etc.) Students will publish their own newspaper, which will be distributed to local areas. This DCHS paper will establish news with a Christian perspective. This is an excellent introductory class for aspiring writers, editors, and photojournalist.<br />

<p><strong>New Mexico! – Miss Bethany Bates and Mr. Michael DiGiacoma (DCHS Alumni)</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
Have you ever wanted to see a different part of the US? This trip will be partnering up with Oneway Ministries and heading down to New Mexico to serve some of the Native American tribes located around the area of Gallup. Students will also have the chance to learn about the culture of these tribes.<br />
<em>Cost: $1500</em></p>
<p><strong>Panama! – Miss Bethany Bates, Mr. Kevin Smith and Pastor Tony Jenkins (Mission Pastor with 10 years of Panama missions experience)</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
Take a few days and travel beyond the peninsula! Students will have the opportunity to visit the country of Panama and partner with Vida Ministries (vidaministries.com) doing various building/painting projects as well as a children&#8217;s crusade for the kids in the local villages. This course also offers a chance to study Spanish culture first-hand along with the history of the country of Panama. Students will be able to visit Panama City, the Panama Canal and the Panamanian jungle! This will be a truly unforgettable experience you won&#8217;t want to miss!<br />

<p><strong>Proverbs in Clay-mation and Bible Mapping – Mrs. Alice Betts</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes<br />
</em>Do you have a passion for God&#8217;s Word? We will be working as a team to develop a ministry tool to illustrate selected proverbs. We will begin with a storyboard, design a set, build clay characters, film their actions, and then animate. The final product will then be posted to our website for use in evangelistic outreach. We will gain a greater understanding of the Scriptures as a whole by color-coding topics and people. This will allow you to quickly identify passages with a system of symbols and simple sketches, and make sense of prophetic words by relating nations and cities to their patriarchs. You will need a Bible to mark, a Strong&#8217;s concordance, and a box of colored pencils.<br />
<em>Cost: $25 for miscellaneous supplies and transportation.</em></p>
<p><strong>Science Enrichment – Mrs. Kim Henry</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
This course is designed to provide students who enjoy and excel in science several unique opportunities to increase their practical knowledge and to do hands on science on a daily basis- while sharing their enthusiasm and experience with others.  Students will act as laboratory interns by accompanying and assisting one of our science teachers in middle school science classrooms.  The emphasis of these visits will be technology in the classroom and experimental design standards.  DCHS students will work directly with the middle school students under the supervision of a DCHS Science teacher to design and conduct experiments in the classroom.  Students will also encourage the younger students to participate in the Delaware State Science Olympiad and Local Science Fair competitions.  Plans are being considered for DCHS to host an Elementary Science Olympiad and participants in this J-term course would design the competitions for this event.  Additionally, specified times would be allotted for participants to work on High School Olympiad and/or Science Fair projects.  Daily readings and discussion using the Answers Academy (Answers in Genesis) provide the framework for strengthening the participant&#8217;s faith and confidence in witnessing through the examination of operational science.<br />

<p><strong>STP Prep – Mrs. Kelley Ridley</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: Yes</em><br />
Students can get an early start on their STP. This course will serve as an introduction for the spring course. Any student who is unsure of their topic or overall performance in the course will be afforded more one on one instruction and the confidence needed when the course picks up in the spring.<br />

<p><strong>Student Short Filmmaking – Mr. Jonathan Douglass and Mr. Joe Scott</strong><br />
<em>Can be paired with Drivers Ed: No</em><br />
Students will work in teams to create and produce a short film project from start to finish, from scripting to screening.  All candidates must schedule an interview with Mr. Douglas and Mr. Scott.  Those with digital media background should bring samples of individual work in iMovie and/or Keynote.  Those with a performing arts background should be prepared to discuss previous experience and read an audition part as selected by the instructors.  All participants must be willing to take on more than one role as cast and crew in the process of production.  All participants must also have reliable transportation for off-campus location shoots or permission to ride with those who do.  Class size will be limited and based on interview/audition.<br />
