Summer Reading – Freshmen
Freshmen at Delmarva Christian High School participate in a summer reading program designed to build interest and motivation for every reader. This program, called SIZZLE (Summer Infusion of Zeal Zooming in on Literacy Effectiveness) consists of 50 choices of literacy-related activities, each with a point value and required documentation. A total of 50 points is required, worth one “A” unit grade in English I.
How to Sizzle
- You have 50 options, each has a point value. View the worksheet here (opens in a new window).
- Your points must add up to at least 50.
- Save “evidence” in a folder, binder or scrapbook. Your mini-posters and diagrams should be 8.5 x 11”.
- Try new things (see #3, 9, 16, 39): bartleby.com, the library, a live play, etc.
- Turn in your work to the Freshmen English teacher rooms during the first week of school.
Important Notes
- Save your Sizzle checklist for reference.
- This is part of your English I grade.
- If you do not reach your goal, or in the discretion of the teacher, your evidence is inadequate, points may be deducted from the grade.
- View the Cinquain worksheet here (opens in a new window).
