Philosophy of Education

Students have been entrusted into the hands of educators by parents who expect the very best for their children. To that end, we believe:

  • Parents are primarily responsible for training up their children
  • Parents must play an active role in the life of their children and the school
  • All students do learn it is the school’s role to help them learn that which will add to their understanding and increase their wisdom
  • All students are worthy of respect as God’s creation regardless of race, creed, gender, ethnic origin, and religious beliefs
  • A student’s understanding of his/her position in God’s kingdom can be positively influenced by the school’s climate and curricula
  • Educators must use the Bible as the primary source for their specific discipline
  • Educators must strive to be godly role-models, part of a ‘Living Curriculum’ that can positively influence students’ lives
  • Educators must keep focused on the vision and mission of the school
  • Educators must never underestimate the capability of a student
  • Educators must have servant hearts
  • Educators must work diligently to address the learning styles of each student
  • Educators must model lifelong learning by keeping abreast of the latest research in education
  • The “Living Curriculum” is comprised of all experiences that a student is exposed to at DCHS to include sports, performing arts, service to the community, and interaction with faculty and staff.
  • Curricula must be designed to develop higher order thinking skills through a progression from grammar to logic to rhetoric
  • Curricula must be developed that emphasize the solving of real-world problems and further the Kingdom of God
  • Curricula must be developed that recognize and facilitate the integration of the various ways (disciplines) to view God”s Kingdom
  • Curricula must recognize the value of hands-on, practical application for all students
  • Schools must help the student “walk with God,” “walk with other believers,” and “walk in, but not of, this world”
  • Schools must set high standards and provide the necessary support for students to reach those high standards
  • Schools are accountable to the community they serve; therefore, DCHS is accountable to the Body of Christ
  • Schools should be organized to empower teachers and parents to be part of the decision making process
  • Schools must be organized and led to maintain a safe and nurturing environment
  • Schools must keep pace with technology
  • The Christian community has a vested interest in the success of DCHS and should adequately support it through funding and partnerships
  • The Christian educational community has a responsibility to work together in a unified manner to strengthen Christian education and further the cause of Christ
