Responsibility. DCHS will purchase iPads for all full- and part-time students. DCHS will maintain ownership of the iPad throughout the student’s time at DCHS. While DCHS owns each iPad, students are responsible for the care and maintenance of the device. The same iPad will be issued to the student throughout their time at DCHS and will be made available to the student upon graduation. Upon graduation, students will have the option to purchase the iPad from DCHS based on the following schedule:
| Years at DCHS | Cost to Keep iPad |
| 4 or more | $0 | 3 | $125 |
| 2 | $250 |
| 1 | $375 |
Students are responsible for maintaining the iPad. Proper maintenance of the iPad includes:
- keeping the iPad in an approved case at all times
- keeping the screen free from scratches
- maintaining the battery, ensuring that it is charged for the school day
- keeping the iPad in a secure location
Loss/Damage. The iPad will be the student’s responsibility. Lost or stolen iPads must be reported to DCHS immediately and should also be reported to the proper authorities if off-campus theft occurs. Any damage to the iPad must be reported to DCHS immediately. The family will be responsible for the cost of replacing the iPad if it is lost, stolen or damaged. DCHS will be responsible for the technical maintenance of the iPad and will cover losses due to technical issues.
DCHS will configure the Find My iPhone feature on all iPads which allows the approximate location of the device to be tracked anytime it is connected to a wireless network.
Insurance. DCHS will offer insurance for the iPad due to theft or accidental damage. All families are encouraged to purchase this insurance. The annual premium is $25. The deductible is $50 for the first incident, $250 for the second. Any incident beyond the second will not be covered and replacement will be the responsibility of the family.
Upgrades. DCHS will evaluate each upgrade to the iPad and will continue to evaluate other tablet options. Students may choose to upgrade to the newest iPad approved by the school according to the following schedule (this assumes the cost of the iPad does not change):
| Class | Cost |
| Freshman Year | Return current iPad + $125 | Sophomore Year | Return current iPad + $250 |
| Junior Year | Keep current iPad + $375 |
| Senior Year | Keep current iPad + $500 |
Syncing. The iPads will be synced to a DCHS iTunes account. DCHS will maintain the required apps on the iPads and cover all expenses for those apps. Students will not have access to the app store.
Students may not download music or video content from the iTunes store. Downloading of podcasts are permitted.
Use at School. Students are required to have their iPads at school everyday. The iPads should be charged and ready for a full day’s use. The teacher will manage the use of the iPad in the classroom. iPads may be used before and after school for educational purposes. iPads are not permitted to be used in the cafe during lunch. Students who have schoolwork to do during lunch may request permission to use the iPad. iPads are permitted to be used during Chapel but only the Bible app and for notetaking. The cameras on the iPads will be disabled and may not be used at anytime.
Use at Home. Parents are encouraged to set parameters regarding iPad use at home. The iPad is a WiFi enabled device and is capable of accessing the internet when wireless networks are available. Internet access is an important part of the functionality of the iPad. Every effort will be made to create homework that can be completed on a home computer or on the iPad. Student’s internet access will be filtered and logged at all times through the use of the Mobicip browser.
Misuse. As is the case with all technology there is the potential that the iPad can be used in inappropriate ways. DCHS will provide internet filtering for the device and teachers will monitor to ensure the device is used for schoolwork. The iPad is covered under the School’s Computer Related Resources policy on pages 17-20 of the Parent-Student Handbook. The consequences of misuse at school will be handled accordingly. Misuse at home should be handled by the parents but reported to the school.
Summer. Students who demonstrate proper use and care of the iPad during the school year will be permitted to keep the device during the summer.
