2008 DCHS graduate Thomas Perry recently completed the United States Marine Corps’ Recruit Training ‘boot camp’ at Parris Island, South Carolina.
Perry graduated from the 3rd Battalion, India Company, with the rank of Private and was awarded a Ministry Assistant certificate, “because I prayed for my
fellow Marines in my platoon and encouraged them to attend church,” Perry said.
He said he learned a good deal about leadership in boot camp and about, “working together; if you don’t work together, you don’t get things done,” Perry added. His commitment to the Marines is for four years of active duty followed by four years in reserve. But he said, “If I learn to love it, I can see myself making it a career.”
After his leave, Perry, a resident of East New Market, Maryland, will report to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, for Marine Combat Training. He will complete his specialty training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.
