Three Kings Day, also known as The Epiphany, is celebrated on January 6, twelve days after Christmas. It is often viewed as the last day of the Christmas season. This past Saturday, current and former Delmarva Christian High School students, along with DCHS Spanish teacher Janice Curtis, helped the local Hispanic community in their Three Kings Day celebration.

“This is traditionally when Hispanic children receive their Christmas gifts,” said Senora Curtis. “Three Kings Day, el día de los reyes, celebrates the revelation of God made Man and recognizes the three Wisemen who presented the gifts of frankincense, gold, and myrrh to the Christ child Jesus.”

In preparation for the Hispanic community’s Fifth Annual Three Kings Day Celebration, DCHS students Stephanie Barry, Hunter Dorey, Tricia Holland, Anita Mall, Hans Peters, and Paige Wright sorted through hundreds of toys at La Esperanza days before. The Saturday event began with a dramatization read in Spanish by DCHS alumni Peter Gorgui and translated to English by DCHS sophomore Brooke Tephabock. DCHS senior John Hale and former DCHS student Lexi Shaub portrayed the holy family, Joseph and Mary, as they reenacted the scene. The short drama concluded with the “wisemen” handing out gifts to the children. Upon receiving their presents, the children continued in their celebration by breaking a piñata.

Georgetown’s Three Kings Day Celebration was organized by La Esperanza and held at the Georgetown Presbyterian Church.
